I am a digital media archivist, systems architect, educator and fan of technology. I created this site to share my experience working in the field of media archiving and preservation, and to reach out to other practitioners.

Nicole Martin @av_archivist is the Associate Director of Archives and Digital Systems at Human Rights Watch and established the organization's first digital archive. Nicole is the former Associate Director of New York University’s Moving Image Archiving and Preservation program and an Adjunct Professor of the Digital Preservation and Handling Complex Media courses. Nicole led digital preservation workshops at The Rockefeller Archives Center and NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts and is on the board of the human rights information security organization OpenArchive.

Nicole formerly worked as the Democracy Now! archivist, coordinator at the Lesbian Herstory Archives, acting director of the Standby Program, and consultant for the International Women's Health Coalition, the New Media Advocacy Project, iWitness Video, Deep Dish Television, and the NoVo Foundation/The Women’s Building. 

Before working as an archivist, Nicole was a digital tinkerer and Apple Genius. They earned a bachelor's degree in Film and Digital Media from the University of California Santa Cruz and enjoyed experimenting with early online live video streaming, and electronic music.
